My major project explores the stigma surrounding pole dance and challenges the stereotypes often attached to it. I wanted to show that pole dancing is not something purely sexualised, but a physically demanding sport and a form of self-expression that requires strength, discipline, and confidence. Using my own photography, I created a book inspired by Barbara Kruger, combining bold typography, black-and-white imagery, and quote-based layouts to reflect themes of power, judgement, and identity.
Alongside the book, I created a 3D sculpture of a pole dancer based on my photography. I used a black silhouette to help desexualise the female body and shift the focus towards movement, athleticism, and empowerment. Together, the book and sculpture encourage viewers to reconsider negative assumptions about pole dance and recognise it as both an art form and a display of strength.
